Water damage is a problem that can happen to new and older homes and commercial buildings, often because the drainage systems aren't functioning correctly or are poorly designed. Energy Management Insulators (EMI) works hard to offer excellent water management and drainage solutions to many types of customers, including homeowners, businesses, and homeowners associations (HOAs) in the Richmond metropolitan area and nearby places. We also design and install water management solutions for new construction projects.
Too much water from poor drainage and water management can damage landscaping, plants, grass, and the topsoil layer while weakening tree roots and affecting their health. It also attracts destructive termites and other pests like worms, rodents, snakes, and insects.
Poor drainage also causes mold and mildew, making inside air unsafe and much less pleasant. EMI designs water management systems by inspecting your property carefully and professionally to determine the best way to drain water safely and effectively from your buildings to good drainage areas or storm sewers. Our expert staff examines the contour of your land and the type of soil on your property so they can choose the best mix of surface and underground drainage parts.
Water management plans usually include surface systems, underground systems, or a combination to move water along efficiently. Surface drainage systems are usually made by creating small ditches along the natural slopes and shapes of the property. These ditches use gravity to move surface water and the water just below the surface from smaller, higher ditches to larger, lower ones. If an available stormwater drain is in a suitable location, these ditches let surface water flow off the property and into the correct sewer intake.
Underground stormwater systems often use a series of French Drains, which are put in trenches dug around a building's foundation. French Drains have pipes with holes in them, usually made of PVC, surrounded by gravel, and wrapped in a special fabric to keep them from getting clogged. These pipes use sloping and gravity to move stormwater and extra water from the surface and gutters and downspouts on roofs. The pipes are big enough to let the water flow easily into the sewer intake. The trenches are then filled with gravel and topsoil, and the French Drain intakes have grates on them for safety and to keep big pieces of debris from getting inside.
Our water management designs look at the unique features of your property and make a drainage system that works well with its features for managing stormwater and keeping the property clear of water damage.
